Mirpur, D.I. Khan, Hyderabad & Sukkur Set for Major Upgrades

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), led by Director General Khurshid Anwar Mirza, is accelerating key infrastructure projects to expand and modernize the country’s air network. Major developments include the construction of new airports in Mirpur (Azad Kashmir), Dera Ismail Khan, and Hyderabad, along with the reconstruction of Sukkur Airport.

In Mirpur, the feasibility report for the new airport is in its final stages, according to official sources.
In Dera Ismail Khan, land acquisition is underway to resolve long-standing connectivity challenges in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and nearby regions.

The PAA also briefed National Assembly members on its plans to rebuild Sukkur Airport and construct a new facility to turn the area into a regional aviation hub. The airport’s strategic location will benefit Sindh’s northern belt.

Meanwhile in Hyderabad, Defence Secretary Lt. Gen (retd) Hamood Uz Zaman Khan has instructed the PAA to launch commercial flight operations. The government also aims to establish an aviation training school at the Hyderabad airport to strengthen skills development in the aviation sector.
