In a moment of pride for Pakistan, the capital city Islamabad has been declared safer than major global metropolises like London, New York, and Sydney, according to the latest international safety index.
As per the spokesperson of Islamabad Police, renowned global data platform Numbeo released a report analyzing safety levels across 380 cities worldwide. Islamabad emerged ahead of cities such as Oslo, Moscow, Toronto, and Barcelona, securing the 93rd spot with a Safety Index score of 67.9.
Numbeo is the world’s largest cost of living database and a crowdsourced global resource for quality of life data. It provides insights into cost of living, housing price indicators, perceived crime rates, healthcare quality, transport quality, and various other key statistics.
This milestone adds to Islamabad’s growing international credibility. The United Nations had earlier marked it as a “family station” for its personnel, reflecting confidence in the city’s peaceful environment.
Credit for this notable progress is largely attributed to the leadership of Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, under whose command the Islamabad Police delivered impressive results. Between 2024 and 2025, the city witnessed a major decline in crime rates—with a 20% drop this year compared to the last.
