Steve Smith’s Milestone-Joins Elite 10,000-Run Club in Test Cricket

-

Steve Smith has just cemented his place among cricket’s legends! The Australian batting maestro has smashed his way into the history books, becoming only the 15th player in Test cricket to reach the remarkable milestone of 10,000 runs.

Achieving this feat in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle on Wednesday, Smith joined the ranks of iconic Australian players like Ricky Ponting, Allan Border, and Steve Waugh. With his stunning consistency, Smith has now become the fifth-fastest batter to cross the 10,000-run mark, trailing only the greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, and Kumar Sangakkara. He reached the milestone with a crisp single to mid-on off Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya, doing so in his 205th Test innings — the second-fastest by an Aussie, behind Ponting.

Smith’s career average of 55.86 from 114 Tests highlights his dominance in the format, and at just 35, he’s showing no signs of slowing down. Having bounced back from a year-long international ban after the 2018 ball-tampering scandal, Smith has proven his resilience and is now part of an exclusive club alongside the likes of Virat Kohli, Kane Williamson, and Joe Root.

But he’s not stopping there. As Smith’s career continues to soar, he’s on track to surpass cricketing giants like Younis Khan and Sunil Gavaskar. By the end of this year, he could well become Australia’s third-highest Test run-scorer, challenging Steve Waugh’s legendary tally. What a way to make your mark on the game!
