Dubious Drink in UK Parliament-Spiking Incident Triggers Investigation

-

A disturbing development has emerged within the UK Parliament as police confirmed they are investigating claims of drink spiking in one of its bars.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s spokesperson expressed grave concern after the Metropolitan Police initiated an inquiry into reports that a female parliamentary researcher had her drink tampered with on January 7, shortly after MPs returned from their Christmas break.

“These reports are deeply troubling,” Starmer’s official spokesman remarked. “Women should feel safe everywhere, and everyone on the parliamentary estate must feel secure in their workplace.”

The incident, first reported by Politico, is said to have occurred in Strangers’ Bar, a popular venue frequented by MPs, parliamentary staff, political journalists, and their guests.

The Met Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with the victim receiving support from officers. No arrests have been made at this stage.

The issue of alcohol consumption in Parliament has long been a topic of debate, with MPs often seen leaving the bar to vote during late-night sessions.

In November, a group of Labour MPs proposed measures to limit alcohol sales in an effort to promote a healthier work environment. Additionally, Starmer announced that spiking would soon be designated as a standalone criminal offense in the UK.
