Watson Slams India’s Decision Not to Visit Pakistan

-

Cricket’s fiercest rivalry takes a backseat as India opts out of playing in Pakistan, sparking debate in the cricketing world.

Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has expressed disappointment over India’s decision not to tour Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, terming it an “unfortunate” development for cricket fans in Pakistan.

Highlighting the unique importance of India-Pakistan cricket, Watson said, “It’s disappointing that things have come to this, but there’s no doubt that the most anticipated event is an India-Pakistan match.”

He emphasized the high stakes and emotions tied to the rivalry. “Whenever these two teams play, especially in ICC events, the intensity and significance are unmatched. As an Australian, I know how important England is as a rival, and for India and Pakistan, the stakes are just as high. Cricket fans never want to miss such clashes, so it’s truly disheartening that India is not participating in Pakistan. This Champions Trophy is a massive moment for Pakistan cricket fans to see world-class cricket on home soil.”

Recalling his personal experience, Watson shared his fond memories of visiting Pakistan for the PSL. “The warmth and passion of the people amazed me. It was heartening to see their love for the game. For years, Pakistan’s cricket fans were deprived of live-action, and events like the Champions Trophy mean the world to them.”

The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled from February 19 to March 9, promises to be a thrilling event featuring eight teams competing in 15 matches. The tournament will kick off in Karachi, with the much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash slated for February 23 in Dubai. Watson described this absence of on-field rivalry in Pakistan as a missed opportunity for cricket.
