‘Happy New Year’-Enjoy the Gift of Higher Petrol Prices to Kick Off 2025!

-

What better way to ring in 2025 than with a fresh petrol price hike? On New Year’s Eve, the federal government graced us with an increase of Re0.56 per litre, just to keep the celebrations going for the first half of the year.

According to the Finance Division’s oh-so-detailed notification, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) decided, based on international market “fluctuations,” that a price hike was totally necessary. Because who doesn’t love paying a little more at the pump, right?

So, petrol prices are now up from Rs252.10 to Rs252.66 per litre. Just a modest Re0.56 increase – truly, a small price to pay for starting the year with a bang.

Meanwhile, high-speed diesel (HSD) had a slightly more “generous” increase of Rs2.96, bumping up from Rs255.38 to Rs258.34 per litre. But hey, it’s all part of the plan to keep the transport sector running smoothly.

Now, for all those who rely on petrol for their private transportation, small vehicles, rickshaws, and two-wheelers – this hike should really help stretch those budgets. And of course, for anyone who’s dependent on HSD – the ones fueling the trucks, buses, trains, and agricultural machinery – you can expect even higher costs for food. Because nothing says “Happy New Year” like rising prices for veggies and other essentials.
