Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho said that talks have been held with the protesters, and the protests will be cleared before tonight. “So far, we have been negotiating gently, but now anyone who does not move will be removed according to the law.”
Speaking to reporters after addressing an event in Karachi, Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho said that it is not appropriate to block the entire city in the name of protests, as citizens are facing difficulties.
He further stated, “After sunset, we will take a tougher stance on the protests. We have been speaking with softness until now, but it is not right to paralyze the city’s system in the name of protest. I have instructed officers to clear the roads.”
The Additional IG mentioned that the people of Karachi have endured a lot over the past three days, and now stricter actions will be taken. “It is a favor of the protesters that they have opened the main roads.”
Javed Alam Odho also said that police officers deal with criminals on a daily basis. “Shaheen Force, Madadgar 15 Police, and local police all face real encounters.”
He further clarified, “While there are a few incidents of fake encounters, we take action on them. We discourage alleged encounters. 104 citizens have been martyred, while 190 criminals have been killed in real encounters.”
He advised citizens that no form of aerial firing will be tolerated in Karachi. “People can celebrate the New Year but should not create trouble for others. For aerial firing on New Year’s Eve, an attempt to murder case will be filed.”
Javed Alam Odho concluded by saying that crime figures in the city are concerning. “This year, there has been a 30% decrease in mobile phone snatching. However, 104 people have been killed due to criminal shootings this year.”
