Today Is Melody Queen’s 24th Death Anniversary

The melody queen’s voice was silenced on this day, 24 years ago, but her songs will live on forever, just as she famously claimed, “Gaye Gi Duniya Geet Mere.”

Noor Jehan, born on September 21, 1926, in Kasur, Punjab, to a family of musicians, recorded nearly 10,000 songs in various languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, and Sindhi, across Pakistan and India.

Her powerful voice uplifted the spirits of the Pakistan Army and the public during the 1965 war with India.

In 1957, she was honored with the President’s Award for her exceptional acting and singing abilities. She also received numerous prestigious accolades, including the Special Nigar Award, Pride of Performance, Life Time Achievement Award, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, PTV Life Time Achievement Award, and the Millennium Award.

Besides her singing, Noor Jehan showcased her acting talent in films such as Chan Way, Dopatta, Mirza Ghalib, Qaidi, Baaji, and Khandaan.

Noor Jehan passed away on December 23, 2000, due to heart failure, and was laid to rest in Karachi, but her legacy continues through her timeless music.
