A historic artifact linked to the Titanic has achieved a record-breaking auction price.

The 18-carat gold pocket watch, crafted by Tiffany & Co., belonged to Captain Arthur Rostron of the RMS Carpathia, who saved 700 Titanic survivors. The watch was a gift from three female survivors as a token of gratitude for his heroic efforts in redirecting his ship to rescue them and others.

Auctioned by Henry Aldridge & Son to a private collector in the U.S., the watch fetched nearly $2 million, making it one of the most valuable Titanic artifacts ever sold. The final amount includes buyer taxes and fees.
