Revealed: The Most Common Yet Worst Passwords Still Dominating the Accounts Worldwide

A recent study has highlighted a major issue in password security, showing that many users still neglect to protect their online accounts. Despite the importance of safeguarding both personal and corporate credentials, millions continue to use weak and easily guessable passwords

According to a report from NordPass, in collaboration with threat management software NordStellar, 123456 is the most commonly used password across both private and corporate accounts globally. This password was found in over 3 million private accounts and more than 1.2 million corporate accounts.

The analysis revealed that 123456 has once again earned the title of the worst password, maintaining the top spot in the annual research conducted over the past six years, appearing in the first position five times.

The top 5 passwords for private accounts are:

  3. 12345678
  4. password
  5. qwerty123

For corporate accounts, the top 5 passwords are:

  1. 123456
  2. 123456789
  3. 12345678
  4. secret
  5. password
