England cricket icon Ian Botham had a close shave with crocodiles and bull sharks while fishing in northern Australia. The 68-year-old was on the Moyle River with former Ashes rival Merv Hughes when disaster nearly struck.
Botham recounted the tense moment on Instagram, joking, “My catch of the day was the barra (fish), while I was nearly the catch of the day for all the crocs and bull sharks.” Thanks to Hughes’ quick thinking, Botham was swiftly pulled to safety, suffering only bruising.
Reflecting on the experience, Botham told The Herald Sun, “At the end of the day, Crocodile Beefy survived.” He added, “I was out of the water quicker than I went in. Quite a few sets of eyes were watching me.”
With their quick reactions and teamwork, the duo ensured Botham’s safe return to the boat. Despite the close call, the cricket legend demonstrated once again that “Crocodile Beefy” can survive any threat.
