Beauty of the Sea- Sindh Wildlife Releases 300 Baby Turtles into the Ocean

-

In a significant effort to protect marine life, Sindh Wildlife has released 300 baby turtles into the ocean, with the turtles being around one to two days old.

According to the Marine Turtle Conservation, since the start of this season, 8,000 eggs from 8 female green turtles have been placed in nests. The incubation period for the eggs ranges from 45 to 60 days, and female green turtles are tagged for monitoring during the breeding season.

Ashfaque Memon, in charge of Marine Turtle Conservation at Sindh Wildlife, stated that this year’s target for turtle eggs is set at 30,000. A single female turtle lays approximately 80 to 110 eggs. Since 1975, around 900,000 baby turtles have been released into the sea.

Memon further stated that various species of turtles have become extinct in Pakistan due to different reasons, and the green turtle is the only species that migrates to the coasts of Sindh and Balochistan. The breeding season for green turtles lasts from mid-August to mid-February.
