-

In a notable achievement for Pakistan’s academic landscape, 43 researchers from the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) have earned a place among the world’s top 2% of scientists for 2024, as per a report by Stanford University and Elsevier. This recognition underscores NUST’s commitment to advancing research and elevating Pakistan’s scientific community on the global stage.

The ranking, which includes 100,000 leading scientists worldwide, reflects NUST’s growing impact in areas such as artificial intelligence, engineering, and cybersecurity. Currently, NUST ranks 353rd globally and 64th in Asia in the QS University Rankings, reinforcing its status as one of Pakistan’s premier research institutions.

This milestone highlights a steady rise for NUST, with representation in the global ranking increasing from nine scientists in 2021, to 23 in 2022, and 31 in 2023. The Stanford and Elsevier report evaluates scientists through a composite index, factoring in citation counts, the Hirsch index, and authorship positions.

The NUST researchers recognized in the report come from a range of fields, including materials science, biomedical research, nanotechnology, physics, cybersecurity, and the humanities. Among them are distinguished scholars such as Dr. Muhammad Shahid, Dr. Noreen Sher Akbar, Dr. Meraj Mustafa Hashmi, and Dr. Rizwan Ul Haq, with 23 researchers maintaining their position in the top 2% over the years.

This accomplishment not only highlights Pakistan’s contributions to science but also reinforces the global standing of Pakistani institutions in research and innovation.
