Karachi to Sukkur – Sindh & Federal Governments agree to Extend M6 Motorway

In a move aimed at enhancing regional connectivity, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Federal Minister of Communication Aleem Khan

Agreed on Thursday to extend the proposed M6 Motorway from Karachi to Sukkur, rather than from Hyderabad to Sukkur as initially planned. This decision aims to improve connectivity and facilitate port traffic.

During a meeting at the CM House in Karachi, the two leaders discussed the possibility of constructing the motorway through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) or by forming a consortium between the federal and provincial governments.

The 306-kilometre, six-lane access-controlled highway, initially planned to connect Hyderabad and Sukkur, is now set to begin in Karachi, passing through Hyderabad.

The PPP agreement for the Hyderabad-Sukkur motorway signed in 2022 with a private consortium was canceled, prompting the new plan. CM Murad assured the federal minister that his team would study the new proposal and explore ways to make it a reality.

The meeting also addressed other infrastructure projects, including the Lyari Expressway upgrade, the Gharo to Keti Bundar road, the Ghotki-Kandhkot bridge, and the completion of the Jamshoro-Sehwan road.
