“Maldives Sets Sights on Full Development by 2040”

-

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced at the United Nations General Assembly that the Maldives aims to be a fully developed nation by 2040.

He emphasized that the country, with a population of around 500,000, plans to build a “digital economy” using artificial intelligence (AI) to improve housing, healthcare, and climate resilience. President Muizzu highlighted the importance of digital connectivity for driving growth and diversity in the economy.

He called for ongoing support from the international community to help the Maldives achieve its ambitious goals. The president also spoke out against the targeting of journalists in conflict zones, stressing their vital role in sharing the truth.

Since gaining independence in 1965, the Maldives has transformed from one of the poorest countries to a middle-income nation. With a strong plan in place, President Muizzu is confident that the Maldives can reach its goal of becoming a fully developed nation by 2040.
