Dispute in Punjab’s Establishment Over Vice-Chancellors for 25 Universities

Published on

A conflict has arisen over the appointment of vice-chancellors in Punjab’s public universities, bringing tensions between key provincial authorities into the spotlight.

The disagreement centers around the selection of vice-chancellors for 25 public universities in Punjab.

Punjab Governor Sardar Salim Haider told the media that the list of candidates provided by the search committee lacked merit. He also raised concerns about the recommendations coming from the Chief Minister’s Office.

He stressed that the appointments would be made on merit, and legal consultations were being sought, which caused delays in the process.

As a result, the governor decided to personally interview 18 of the 25 shortlisted candidates.
