In a unique and captivating journey, three retired Boeing 777 aircraft from Saudi Arabian Airlines made their way from Jeddah to Riyadh by road, sparking excitement across social media.
The planes, covering approximately 1,000 kilometers through deserts and mountains, were transported on large trucks to be showcased at Riyadh Season 2024’s Boulevard Runway zone. Their wings and other components were removed, allowing the fuselages to be carried across the country.
The impressive sight of the aircraft traveling on the highway captured the attention of many, with Saudis taking to social media to share pictures and videos of the event. People in traditional attire, waving national flags, posed with the planes, while families gathered to watch, and children dressed in green waved toy airplanes.
Turki al Sheikh, head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, announced a competition for the best photo of the planes on their road trip, with luxury cars as prizes for the winners.
The excitement around the journey continues to grow as the planes are set to be transformed into shops and restaurants, offering unique experiences as part of Riyadh Season’s interactive events.
