No Ban on ‘X’ – PTA Confirms in Sindh High Court

-

The Sindh High Court (SHC) addressed the recent suspension of the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, across Pakistan.

During the hearing, the SHC considered petitions challenging the nationwide suspension of X. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed it had revoked the notification that led to the platform’s suspension.

PTA’s lawyer, Saad Siddiqui, informed the court that the directive to block access to X had been withdrawn. In response, the court inquired if the platform was now accessible.

However, Moeez Jafri, the petitioners’ lawyer, argued that despite the withdrawal, users were still unable to access X.

The court emphasized that with no active order in place for the platform’s closure, access should be restored. Another PTA lawyer, however, claimed he was unaware of the notification’s retraction.

The court also criticized the PTA for assigning different lawyers to each petition, causing confusion, as only one had the necessary information.

The hearing of the remaining petitions regarding the shutdown of X was adjourned for two weeks.
