Wasim Akram Calls – Pakistan’s Test Defeat to Bangladesh a “Major Setback”

-

Former Pakistan cricket captain and legendary pacer Wasim Akram has expressed deep disappointment following Pakistan’s 2-0 whitewash by Bangladesh in the recent Test series.

Speaking to AFP, Akram described the loss as a “major setback” for the national cricket team.

“It’s a serious blow, and our cricket is facing a tough phase,” said Akram. He emphasized his frustration at the team’s inability to perform, particularly after Bangladesh secured their first-ever Test series win against Pakistan.

Following their fifth consecutive Test defeat, Pakistan has now dropped to eighth place in the ICC Test rankings—their lowest position in six decades. Bangladesh, on the other hand, has risen to fourth in the ICC World Test Championship rankings.

Akram voiced his embarrassment over Pakistan’s performance, particularly under the leadership of Shan Masood. “As a former captain and passionate supporter, I find it humiliating that we keep losing from strong positions. It’s hard to understand.”

He concluded by stressing Pakistan’s poor form, especially at home, where they have struggled against opponents. “Our continued losses on home soil raise serious concerns about the overall quality of our cricket.”

Pakistan’s next Test series will be against England, starting October 7, as part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25.
