Twenty years ago, Haider Ali, a teenager from Gujranwala with Cerebral Palsy, never imagined he’d become a Paralympic champion.
Today, he’s gearing up to defend his title in the Men’s Discus Throw F37. Ali’s remarkable journey began in 2005, when sports officials in Faisalabad noticed his talent.
After being classified for para sports, he received comprehensive training, leading to his international debut at the 2006 FESPIC Games, where he won multiple medals.
Ali’s achievements have been significant, including gold medals at the Asian Para Games and the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
His success is attributed to the National Paralympic Committee of Pakistan’s (NPC) support, which included financial aid and professional coaching.
Despite facing challenges like limited sports infrastructure and assistive devices in Pakistan, Ali has consistently performed at the highest level and is expected to continue his golden streak at the Paris Paralympics.
