“Goodbye Cricket” England and Zalmi’s Star Dawid Malan Bids Farewell to International Cricket

-

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Wednesday that Dawid Malan, formerly the top-ranked T20I batter globally, has officially retired from international cricket.

Malan, who will turn 37 next week, enjoyed a distinguished career in both One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20 Internationals (T20Is), with 30 and 62 appearances respectively. His final appearance for England was in the 50-over World Cup last November.

Hailing from Roehampton, Malan achieved the rare feat of scoring centuries in all three formats. His record includes six centuries in ODIs, one in Tests, and one in T20Is, placing him among only two England players to achieve this milestone, alongside Jos Buttler.

Reflecting on his career, Malan said, “It has been an incredible journey since July 2017. I am deeply grateful for the chance to represent England in all three formats.” He expressed his thanks to the coaches, staff, and teammates who supported him throughout his seven years in international cricket.

England men’s cricket managing director Rob Key praised Malan’s significant contributions, particularly his role in England’s T20 World Cup victory in 2022. “His legacy will be remembered for his resilience and accomplishments on the international stage—qualities any player would be proud of,” Key noted.

Malan’s retirement marks the end of a notable era for English cricket, leaving a legacy of resilience and excellence. He also represented Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
