IPPs Under Fire Senate Committee Demands Forensic Audit of Contracts

-

The Senate Functional Committee on Devolution recently convened to address pressing concerns in the power sector.

With Senator Dr. Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur at the helm, the committee delved into the contentious issue of Independent Power Producers (IPPs).

On Tuesday, the Senate Committee on Devolution, chaired by Senator Dr. Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur, expressed concerns over the lack of transparency in IPPs’ contracts.

The committee directed the relevant ministry to conduct a forensic audit of the IPPs’ contracts, citing questionable functioning and significant public hardships.

The chairperson emphasized the need for accountability and requested the ministry to provide:

  • Details of standard contracts
  • A list of power plants’ capacity charges (percentage-wise)
  • Timelines for their operations

The committee seeks to scrutinize IPPs’ contracts and operations to ensure transparency and accountability.
