World’s Oldest Person, Maria Branyas, Passes Away at 117

Maria Branyas, the world’s oldest person, has left an indelible mark on history.

Maria Branyas, passed away peacefully at the age of 117 in a Spanish nursing home, as confirmed by her X account and a spokesperson on Tuesday.

In her final message on Monday, Branyas had hinted at her impending passing, saying, “I feel weak… Don’t cry, I don’t like tears.”
Her daughter manages her X account.

Branyas celebrated her 117th birthday on March 4 and became the world’s oldest person in January 2023.

Born in San Francisco in 1907, she moved to Catalonia at age seven and lived through two pandemics and the Spanish civil war.

She married Joan Moret in 1931 and had three children, outliving her husband and son. Branyas attributed her remarkable longevity to luck, good genetics, and a peaceful life.
