Jamaat-e-Islami Announces Countrywide Shutter Down Strike on 28th August

-

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan is gearing up for a nationwide protest to challenge government policies, addressing pressing economic and governance concerns.

The party has announced a significant shutter-down strike scheduled for August 28.

JI Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has declared a nationwide ‘peaceful’ shutter-down strike on August 28, as reported by Inshort News.

Addressing party officials at Idara Noore Haq in Karachi, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman criticized opposition parties for their unclear stance on government protests.

He asserted, “JI cannot align with parties that lack clarity. We have a definitive position and will not join any political alliance.”

He underscored JI’s commitment to the youth and the people of Pakistan, reaffirming his pledge to hold the government accountable for its agreements with JI.

Rehman also pointed to deteriorating law and order in Punjab and the economic challenges facing 74% of Pakistanis due to low incomes, noting the increasing emigration of young people seeking better opportunities.

Rehman condemned the expensive RLNG agreements for their negative impact on the economy and cautioned that the government’s actions might prompt IPPs to seek international arbitration.

He also expressed concern over the FBR’s effect on exports and the estimated $250 billion loss from border smuggling.

“We are committed to holding the government accountable and ensuring the agreement is enforced,” he stated.

In a related development, traders have announced a nationwide strike on August 28 in response to the Tajir Dost scheme introduced by the Federal Board of Revenue.

The All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran, along with other traders’ associations, is demanding the scheme’s withdrawal and the reversal of increased taxes on the export sector and income tax slabs for individuals and businesses.
