Mountaineer Murad Sadpara Goes Missing After Broad Peak Summit

-

Renowned Pakistani mountaineer Murad Sadpara, famous for his record-breaking climbs, has gone missing after reaching the summit of Broad Peak.

Reports indicate he fell after summiting, and contact has been lost.

Despite Broad Peak’s reputation as one of the “safer” eight-thousanders, this incident highlights the inherent dangers of high-altitude climbing.

Deputy Commissioner Waliullah Falahi confirmed Sadpara’s disappearance and noted that Army Aviation is assisting in the search.

Fellow climber Naila Kiani has appealed on social media for the Pakistan Army to send a team from Skardu to help.

Sadpara was part of a team that recently recovered a porter’s body from K2.

Mountaineer Abid Sadpara has urged the public to pray for Murad’s safe return and expressed frustration over the slow response to their calls for help.

Pakistan, which boasts five of the world’s 14 peaks over 8,000 meters, remains a major climbing destination. In 2023, over 8,900 foreign climbers visited Gilgit-Baltistan during the summer season.
