KARACHI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned officials of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in a Rs4 billion corruption case.

Officials are required to provide records of recruitments, purchases, and salaries, and appear for an inquiry.

Allegations include embezzlement, illegal recruitment, and misuse of salaries. NICVD is cooperating with the investigation and has activated internal audits and formed a committee to investigate medicine thefts.

This case coincides with Pakistan’s improved ranking on the Corruption Perception Index (CPI), moving from 140th to 133rd out of 180 countries. The CPI score increased from 27 to 29, its highest since 2020.
