“T20 Women World Cup in Bangladesh” ICC plans to change the venue

-

Recent unrest in Bangladesh has raised concerns about the safety of the Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled for October 2024.

With the country in turmoil, the ICC is looking at alternative venues to ensure the tournament can proceed smoothly.

During the protests, properties linked to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League party, including the home of former cricket captain Mashrafe Mortaza in Narail, were damaged.

An ICC official confirmed that they are closely monitoring the situation and working with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and security experts to ensure safety.

In light of the unrest, Australia, England, and India have issued travel warnings for Bangladesh.

The ICC is considering India and Sri Lanka as backup hosts, though Sri Lanka faces potential rain issues and India might encounter visa problems for the Pakistan team.
