Instagram Blocked in Turkey

-

Turkey’s infotech regulator announced on Friday that it has blocked access to Instagram without providing a reason or specifying the duration of the ban.

The platform’s mobile app is also inaccessible.

The move follows criticism from Turkish communications official Fahrettin Altun, who accused Instagram of blocking condolence posts regarding the death of Ismail Haniyeh, a key Hamas official.

“This is censorship, pure and simple,” Altun stated on X, claiming Instagram had not cited any policy violations for its actions.

Meta Platforms Inc, Instagram’s parent company, has not commented on either the ban or Altun’s remarks.

Turkey’s Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) published the decision on its website on August 2.
