Paris Olympics 2024 : Triathlon Swimming Postponed Due to Poor Water Quality

-

Triathlon Swiming is postponed in Paris olympics 2024 due to poor water quality of River Seine.

Swimming in the triathlon was scheduled to take place in the iconic River Seine, but concerns over water quality have arisen, especially after heavy rain at the start of Paris 2024. Organizers have postponed the men’s event to Wednesday.

The men’s triathlon was initially set for Tuesday morning, with the women’s event planned for Wednesday.

Test results released Friday showed the River Seine’s water quality was slightly below the standards needed for swimming, just as the Paris Olympics began.

Heavy rain during the opening ceremony heightened worries about the waterway’s cleanliness for swimming events, as water quality is closely linked to the weather in Paris.

In an effort to ease concerns, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo took a well-publicized swim last week. The Seine is set to host marathon swimming and triathlon events.

Daily tests monitor fecal bacteria levels, specifically E. coli. Tests by Eau de Paris at the Bras Marie showed E. coli levels above the safe limit of 900 colony-forming units per 100 milliliters, as per European rules, on July 17, the day the mayor swam.

On the day of the swim, the site recorded 985 units. Mayor Hidalgo was accompanied by Paris 2024 chief Tony Estanguet, regional official Marc Guillaume, and local swimming club members. Two other downstream sites had results below the safety threshold.
