Punjab implements AI technology to identify smoke-emitting vehicles

-

The Punjab government, under the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), has launched an initiative employing artificial intelligence (AI) to identify and penalize vehicles emitting excessive smoke.

Motorists are advised that traffic violations will now incur electronic fines backed by evidence.

As directed by Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz, transport authorities have begun monitoring vehicles emitting smog using advanced AI-equipped cameras under the Punjab Safe City project in Lahore.

The system targets various vehicles including trucks, buses, cars, wagons, auto-rickshaws, and motorcycles.

Lahore Traffic Police have already issued numerous fines based on AI-detected smoke emissions, with each digital citation containing photographic proof of the offense.

Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb emphasized that leveraging modern technology ensures both environmental conservation and rigorous enforcement of traffic regulations.
