New tram service in Lahore – Details of route, launch date announced

-

The Punjab government has given the green light to a new tram service in Lahore, aimed at improving the city’s transportation network.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif endorsed the project during her visit to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters.

The tram service will cover an 11-kilometer route with 10 stops spaced 1 to 1.5 kilometers apart. Inspired by modern tram systems in Finland and China, the project is estimated to cost Rs27 billion.

Key locations along the tram route will include Main Boulevard from Kalma Chowk, Liberty, Main Market, Mini Market, and Hali Road. To facilitate this, MM Alam Road will be converted to a one-way street as part of the project’s remodeling and beautification efforts.

Additionally, a stop will be installed at Gaddafi Stadium, catering to sports fans and event attendees. Ticket prices will be announced closer to the launch date.
