Pakistani students excelled at the 65th International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) 2024 by securing silver and bronze medals in the global competition.

The competition, organized by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), took place from July 11 to 22 in Bath, United Kingdom.

Razi Hasan Mansoor, representing Karachi, earned the silver medal, while Muhammad Ahmad Bhatti from Karachi School secured the bronze.

In addition, Muhammad Mehd Arif from Sundus School in Lahore received an “Honorable Mention” for Pakistan at this prestigious international event.

The mathematics team received training at COMSATS University, Lahore Campus, under the guidance of Prof Dr Sarfaraz Ahmed and Dr Hani Shakir.

PAEC, through PIEAS University, annually conducts the National Science Talent Competition in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology across 19 cities in Pakistan.

Selected students from these competitions represent Pakistan in international Olympiads under the STEM Career Program.

The IMO 2024 saw participation from 609 students, including 528 males and 81 females, representing 108 countries. The top positions were secured by teams from the United States, China, and South Korea.
