Razaq & Wahab React on Removal from Selection Committee

-

Abdul Razzaq, former Pakistan all-rounder, has responded to his removal from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where the team did not advance past the group stage.

The PCB confirmed the changes in an official statement on Wednesday, notifying Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that they would no longer be part of the national selection committee.

Razzaq expressed his views on social media platform ‘X,’ questioning the balance of power within the selection committee: “If all members had equal power, how could one vote outweigh the others in the selection committee??” he posted.

Whab Riaz’s Reaction

Similarly, Wahab Riaz, also recently relieved from his role as a selector, shared his thoughts on ‘X’ in a detailed statement, highlighting his pride in his contributions and emphasizing the collaborative nature of the selection process.

“With my tenure on the PCB selection committee ending, I want to assure everyone that I have served cricket with dedication and sincerity, always striving for the betterment of Pakistan cricket,” Wahab stated.

He added, “It was an honor to work as part of the selection panel, making decisions collectively with equal input from all members. Supporting Gary Kirsten and the coaching staff in shaping the team’s vision was a privilege. I am confident in their plans for the future success of the team and wish them the best.”

“I am grateful for the support I’ve received and wish the Pakistan cricket team continued success,” he concluded.

Following these developments, the PCB has announced a new selection committee featuring former cricketers Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq, along with coaches Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten. Captains Shan Masood and Babar Azam will also play pivotal roles in the committee, focusing on the white-ball and red-ball teams respectively.
