On Sunday, a race with donkey carts happened in Karachi. It went from ICI Flyover to Karachi’s Commissioner House.

Around 50 carts joined the race. The Commissioner Karachi set it up to support a traditional sport.

City Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the event’s chief guest, awarded prizes to the top three racers.

Abdullah Khalid, whose donkey ‘Bijli’ clinched first place, beamed with joy and thanked Allah. Hailing from Lyari, Abdullah shared that he nourishes Bijli with milk and almonds. He pocketed a Rs25,000 cash prize, while the second-place winner received Rs20,000.

Commissioner Karachi highlighted this as the debut event of the sports festival.

Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab remarked that the race was a special treat for those with limited entertainment options, particularly enjoyed by older folks.

Mayor Karachi also suggested adding poetry and other low-cost events for citizens’ enjoyment.
