Babusar Road Reopens After Seven-Month Closure Due to Snowfall

-

GILGIT: The Babusar road, a renowned tourist spot, reopened for light traffic on Monday after being closed for seven months due to heavy snowfall.

The road, which had been impassable due to significant snow accumulation, is now accessible after snow removal efforts at Babusar top and nearby areas, according to Diamer Deputy Commissioner Fayyaz Ahmed.

Vehicle movement on Babusar road from both KP and GB sides is permitted daily from 5am to 5pm until Eidul Azha. The restriction to daylight hours is due to the risks posed by melting snow during the day and freezing temperatures at night.

New travel hours will be announced post-Eidul Azha. Travelers are advised to adhere to the Met department’s travel advisory, planning trips only after checking current advisories and alerts.

The journey from Diamer to Mansehra via Babusar road takes seven hours, compared to the 14-hour drive on the Karakoram Highway.
