Ahead of the five-match T20I series against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe cricket team captain Sikandar Raza attended a press conference at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
Before discussing the series, Raza removed a bottle of Coca-Cola soft drink from the table.
This action comes amidst a global trend of boycotting Western products, particularly Coca-Cola, in response to Israel’s aggression in Gaza.
Many people in Bangladesh, like in other Muslim countries, are boycotting Coca-Cola.
It is speculated that Raza’s removal of the Coke bottle may have been part of this boycott, although he did not comment on the matter.
Previously, Portuguese football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Australian star cricketer David Warner made headlines worldwide for rejecting Coca-Cola, citing health concerns, which led to a significant drop in the company’s share prices.
During the press conference in Chattogram, Raza expressed his fondness for Bangladesh, stating, “I come to Bangladesh very often. I don’t know what the future holds. If this is my last visit, I want my wife, daughter, and son to experience the love and hospitality of Bangladesh.” He further added, “I don’t know if I will come to Bangladesh again. Even if I retire, I would want my family members to experience the love and hospitality of the people of Bangladesh. Bangladesh loves me a lot.”
