“Ukraine War” – Putin Expands Russian Army to 1.5 Million Troops

-

In a significant military move, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday that he had ordered the expansion of Moscow’s army to 1.5 million active soldiers, with the goal of ensuring a highly trained and ready force.

On Monday, Putin signed a decree adding 180,000 troops, making Russia’s military the second largest globally by active personnel.

Amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Russia has increased its militarization. This is the third time Putin has ordered a troop increase since the war began in February 2022.

Addressing defense officials, Putin stressed the importance of a prepared and capable military, saying, “We must ensure that the armed forces are staffed with well-trained personnel through close cooperation between federal and regional authorities.”

He particularly highlighted the need for readiness in the newly established military districts.

Earlier this year, in response to rising tensions with the West, Russia restructured its military, forming the Moscow and Leningrad districts.
