“Sausages” Instead of “Hostages” – UK Prime Minister’s Slip of Tongue Creates a Buzz

-

A slip of the tongue by British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer caused quite a stir when he unintentionally used an inappropriate word while addressing the issue of Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.

During the Labour Party’s annual conference, Sir Keir Starmer mistakenly referred to the “return of sausages” instead of “return of hostages” while calling for the release of Israeli citizens detained by the Palestinian group Hamas in Gaza.

To clarify, “sausages” are processed meat products made from a blend of fat, meat, and various spices. They come in different varieties, with pork sausages being common in Western countries, but chicken and other meats are also used. They resemble hotdogs in appearance.

Starmer stated, “I call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the return of sausages (hostages).” He also emphasized the importance of a two-state solution.

The British Prime Minister further advocated for recognizing a Palestinian state alongside a secure and safe Israel. His slip of the tongue quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread discussion.

The incident, which took place at the Labour Party conference in Liverpool, has drawn significant attention to the Prime Minister’s unintended but amusing error.
