Syria Crisis-900% Spike in Bread Prices & 119% Rise in Poultry Costs

-

A report on the situation in Syria was released by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.According to the report, following the fall of the Assad government, major cities such as Damascus, Deir Ezzor, and Hama are experiencing severe food shortages.

Between November 27 and December 9, there was a staggering 900% increase in the price of bread in Idlib and Aleppo. Additionally, the price of poultry has risen by 119%, severely impacting access to essential goods across the region.

Food distribution has also been disrupted in areas like Quneitra, Manbij, and Deir Ezzor. Due to economic instability, many shops are closed, traders are hoarding goods, and at least 6,000 families urgently need food aid.

In light of this situation, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected to visit Turkey on Friday to discuss the crisis with his Turkish counterpart.
