Solidarity with Gaza – IBA students walkout from Coke recruitment drive.

Published on

In a powerful demonstration of solidarity with Palestine, students of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Karachi, Pakistan, took a decisive step by walking out of a Coca-Cola recruitment drive. The move, which sent shockwaves through the campus, symbolized a collective stance against the ongoing violence in Gaza. This act of defiance not only reflects the students’ commitment to justice but also underscores the significance of ethical considerations in their pursuit of professional opportunities.

IBA Karachi, known as one of Pakistan’s leading universities, witnessed its final-year students taking a decisive stand amidst the challenges of hyperinflation and economic uncertainty. Despite the allure of multinational corporations like Coca-Cola, promising lucrative career prospects, these students prioritized their principles over personal gain.

This act, which garnered attention both locally and internationally is a part of a broader global movement, with individuals worldwide choosing to express their condemnation through boycotts, divestments, and sanctions (BDS) against companies complicit in supporting the Israeli occupation.

Initiated in 2005 by a coalition of Palestinian civil society groups, the BDS movement has gained momentum as a non-violent means of resisting oppression and promoting accountability. By targeting companies like Coca-Cola, whose business practices contribute to injustice, individuals are sending a powerful message that human rights should never be compromised for profit.

The students’ walkout at IBA Karachi signifies a courageous stand against injustice and a reaffirmation of their commitment to solidarity and social justice.
