Old Woman’s Cold-Saudi Arabia Faces Freezing Temperatures and Snowfall

-

A biting cold front has swept into Saudi Arabia, bringing with it freezing temperatures and unpredictable weather that could catch many off guard. This new cold wave, aptly named “Bard al-Ajoz” (Old Woman’s Cold), is set to freeze the northern and central regions as temperatures plummet below freezing, signaling the arrival of the harshest chill of the season.

According to the Saudi Meteorological Department, this cold wave will grip the northern and northeastern areas through Wednesday, with its icy touch reaching central regions as well. Mornings could see temperatures dip below zero, and central areas might experience temperatures ranging from 0 to 4°C, potentially causing fog and frozen water effects.

Strong winds and dust storms are expected to lash areas like Riyadh, Najran, Makkah, Madinah, Tabuk, and the Eastern Province. Meteorologist Dr. Abdullah Al-Musnad explains that this extreme cold began sweeping through northern Saudi Arabia on Friday, and by Sunday, it will intensify, affecting Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and Najran.

In an added twist, experts predict the possibility of snow in northern regions, especially in areas above 800 meters, with snow expected to fall on Monday and Tuesday night. As Ramadan approaches, temperatures will begin to rise, but northern regions could stay below freezing for up to five days, making this cold wave one to watch closely.
