“Nissan Patrol 2025” – Nissan’s Bold Shift from V-8 to Turbo Power

Published on

Nissan has finally revealed the highly anticipated seventh-generation Patrol, giving the iconic off-roader a major refresh after 14 years.

The new model comes with substantial changes, notably moving away from the V-8 engine and offering both turbocharged and naturally aspirated options.

Here’s what you can expect from the 2025 Patrol.

While the Abu Dhabi debut primarily showcased the large off-roader with a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6, some markets will also receive a base 3.8-liter V-6.

This non-turbo engine delivers 316 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque—109 hp and 231 lb-ft less than the twin-turbo version.

So why opt for the NA engine? There are two key reasons.

First, it will be more budget-friendly as the base option. Second, many may view it as more reliable in the long run due to the absence of turbochargers. However, there are trade-offs, including reduced power and torque and likely higher fuel consumption, especially given the Patrol’s size and weight.

Like the twin-turbo, the NA engine drives all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The seventh-generation Patrol replaces its long-standing predecessor, which was on the market for 14 years. Similar to the 2025 Armada in the U.S., it ditches the naturally aspirated V-8 engine.

However, the Patrol still offers a naturally aspirated option for those who prefer a simpler engine setup, as the new 2025 model introduces an NA engine that skips electrification altogether.

There’s no official word on a Nismo version yet, though the previous-generation Patrol did have a sportier variant with a more aggressive look and a slight boost in horsepower.

Given Nissan’s recent launch of the fully electric Ariya Nismo and last year’s Skyline Nismo in Japan, it’s possible they might introduce another Patrol Nismo, though this could risk diluting the Nismo brand.

The Patrol will be sold in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

In Australia, it remains the Patrol rather than the Armada. Sales begin in the Middle East on November 1, but oddly enough, no diesel engine option has been announced.
