-

Kiswa – A new cover, known ‘ is recently installed at the Kaaba by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque on Sunday.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, a team of 159 craftsmen from the King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa oversaw the replacement at the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah.

The team, specialized in various aspects, carefully dismantled the old Kiswa and installed the new one. They secured it at the corners and on the roof of the Kaaba. The Kiswa, weighing 1,350 kilograms and measuring 14 meters in height, consists of four panels and a door curtain.

Each side of the Kaaba was individually raised to the top to be unfolded over the old covering. After tying and untying ropes, the new side was smoothly lowered into place while the old Kiswa was removed from the bottom.

This process was repeated for all four sides until the installation was complete.

The final step involved aligning and sewing the belt straight along all sides of the Kiswa. Once all sides were secured, corners were sewn from top to bottom. The curtain, approximately 3.33 meters wide and 6.35 meters long, was carefully cut and sewn into the black fabric of the Kiswa.

The Kiswa itself is made from approximately 1,000 kilograms of raw silk, dyed black onsite, and adorned with 120 kilograms of gold threads and 100 kilograms of silver threads. The belt of the Kiswa consists of 16 pieces with seven additional pieces below it.
