Renowned Indian lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar has strongly criticized the reception given to Afghan Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi during his official visit to India, saying the situation is “shameful and embarrassing.”

Amir Khan Muttaqi is in India for a six-day visit, marking the first official trip by any Taliban leader to the country since the Taliban regained power in 2021.

Reacting on social media platform X, Javed Akhtar expressed outrage, stating, “It is humiliating to see a representative of the world’s most notorious terrorist group being honored by those who constantly speak against terrorism.”

He also targeted Darul Uloom Deoband in Uttar Pradesh, adding, “Deoband should feel ashamed for welcoming a person as a religious hero who supports a complete ban on girls’ education.”

Despite UN sanctions, Amir Khan Muttaqi was granted special travel permission. During the visit, controversy arose when female journalists were barred from a press conference, which the Taliban Foreign Minister later described as “a mere technical issue” and insisted no one was deliberately excluded.
