A decade-long legal battle ends with triumph, as Jamaat’s registration is restored—party leader calls it a victory for justice and the people.

In a historic ruling, the Bangladesh Supreme Court has revived Jamaat-e-Islami’s political lifeline, overturning a 2013 High Court verdict that had declared its registration illegal. The decision comes as a major breakthrough for the party after years of legal and political struggles.
A four-member bench led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed declared the earlier ban null and void, directing the Election Commission to restore Jamaat’s official registration and election symbol—clearing the path for the party to return to the political battlefield.
Jamaat’s lawyer confirmed that the party will now seek full participation in the political process.
Jamaat Ameer: “Truth Has Won, Alhamdulillah!”

In a heartfelt statement, Jamaat’s Ameer, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, said the Supreme Court’s decision ends years of injustice and opens a new era of democratic hope.
“After over a decade of persecution and patience, the truth has finally triumphed. Today’s verdict is not just a legal victory—it’s a moment of spiritual and national renewal,” he said.
Dr. Rahman also thanked the lawyers, supporters, and intellectuals who stood by the party through its darkest hours.
“This ruling restores not only our party’s status, but also the people’s right to choose. InshaAllah, a brighter chapter begins today.”
Who Was Motiur Rahman Nizami?
Once the face of Jamaat-e-Islami, Nizami was hanged in 2016 after being convicted for alleged war crimes during the 1971 conflict—a move that drew global criticism and intensified divisions in Bangladesh.

Today’s verdict not only revives the party he once led but also reopens a complex, emotional chapter in the nation’s political memory.
