Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is facing a major backlash after a viral video showed him pulling the hijab of a Muslim female doctor during a public event. Following the uproar, Samajwadi Party leader Samia Rana filed an FIR against Nitish Kumar and UP Cabinet Minister Sanjay Nishad at Kaisar Bagh Police Station in Lucknow, demanding strict legal action.
The video shows CM Nitish handing appointment letters to newly posted AYUSH doctors while grabbing the doctor’s hijab. Political parties and human rights groups have condemned the act as inappropriate, humiliating, and disrespectful toward women.
Samia Rana said such behavior by a constitutional authority sets a dangerous precedent, sending a message that violating women’s and minority rights is acceptable. She also criticized Sanjay Nishad for downplaying the incident, calling his remarks a key reason for filing the complaint.
Lawyer Misham Zaidi added that Nitish Kumar’s act falls under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (assault on a woman’s dignity), while Sanjay Nishad’s statement fuels religious hatred, punishable under Section 153A.
