Bangladesh ,Pakistan , India are among the most polluted countries in the world.

The Swiss air quality monitoring agency IQAir has released a list of the world’s 100 most polluted cities.

The top three most polluted countries in 2023 were:

  • 1- Bangladesh (79.9 µg/m3) more than 15 times higher than the WHO PM2.5 annual guideline
  • 2- Pakistan (73.7 µg/m3) more than 14 times higher than the WHO PM2.5 annual guideline
  • 3- India (54.4 µg/m3) more than 10 times higher than the WHO PM2.5 annual guideline

According to the report, last year, 83 of the world’s most polluted cities were located in India.

The report highlights Central and South Asia as regions with the worst air quality, where the world’s 100 most polluted cities are predominantly located.

According to the report, the Indian city of Bigho Sarai was the most polluted city in the world last year, with a PM2.5 level of 118.9 micrograms.

Guwahati, Delhi, and Malanpur rank second, third, and fourth on this list.

The report states that in India, 1.3 billion people, or 96% of the population, live in areas where the air is seven times more polluted than the standards set by the World Health Organization.

Bangladesh was named the world’s most polluted country in 2023.

This study measured the amount of particulate matter (PM2.5) in the air. According to the World Health Organization, the annual average of PM2.5 in any area should not exceed 5 micrograms per cubic meter.

The report examined the air quality of 7,800 cities, only 9% of which met the standards set by the World Health Organization.

Globally, in terms of air pollution, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, and Tajikistan were the most polluted countries last year.
