In a dramatic turn of events,
Former Intelligence Chief
Major General Ziaul Ahsan, recently removed from his position in the Bangladesh military, was detained late Tuesday night.
His plane was turned around on the runway at Dhaka airport, and he was taken off the aircraft and moved to a military base in Dhaka.
Reports indicate that Ahsan was arrested after his flight was directed back from the runway. Another passenger was also detained, but the plane was allowed to leave later.
Ahsan, who had just lost his job and was known to be close to the recently resigned Prime Minister, had served as the Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre since 2022. Previously, he was the Director of the same agency.
In 2009, he became the vice-captain of Rab-2 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel, overseeing the intelligence.
