Eid-ul-Fitr Long Weekend – 6 days Extended Celebrations Await!

-

Islamabad is gearing up for an extended holiday period in anticipation of the upcoming Eidul Fitr celebrations, which are expected to span six days.

According to a report from a private news channel, preparations for the festival are already underway, with the festivities set to commence around April 10.

In 2019, the IT ministry implemented the lunar calendar to address issues regarding moon sightings and to promote consistency in Eid celebrations. This calendar, supported by the Meteorological Department, plays a crucial role in determining the dates of Islamic events, including Eidul Fitr.

Historically, Eid holidays begin a day ahead of the expected date to provide sufficient time for preparations and participation in the festive celebrations.

The government is considering a four-day holiday starting from April 9 (Tuesday) to April 12 (Friday), alongside the regular weekend break observed on Saturday and Sunday by government and some private offices, potentially extending the holiday period to six days.

However, the ultimate decision on the holiday schedule hinges on consultations with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and other relevant authorities.

The objective is to ensure synchronization with the lunar calendar and to enable nationwide celebrations in line with Islamic customs.

Eidul Fitr carries profound cultural and religious importance for Muslims globally, signifying the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, characterized by fasting, prayer, and contemplation.
