In today’s world, social media fame can make anyone seem like a star, but as Ejaz Khan found out, a large following doesn’t always translate into real-world success.
Despite his 5.6 million Instagram followers, the former Bigg Boss contestant’s political debut in the Maharashtra Assembly elections turned out to be more of a flop than a victory.
Former Bigg Boss contestant and actor Ejaz Khan contested the Maharashtra Assembly elections but surprisingly received only 131 votes from the Versova constituency.
Ejaz Khan ran as a candidate for the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram).
Despite having 5.6 million followers on Instagram, this fame did not translate into votes in the election.
According to the Election Commission’s data, voter turnout in the Versova constituency was 42.2%, with the NOTA (None of the Above) option securing 1,022 votes, more than Ejaz Khan’s total.
In Versova, Haroon Khan emerged victorious with 58,047 votes. Traditionally, this constituency has been a stronghold for the Congress party, but this time 16 candidates were in the race.
Across Maharashtra, this election saw the highest voter turnout in three decades, with a fierce contest between the Mahayuti alliance (BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP) and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (Congress-Shiv Sena (UBT)-NCP-SP).
Preliminary trends indicate that the Mahayuti alliance is leading in 231 out of the 288 seats, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi is trailing with only 51 seats.
